Working on the Wikia
Seemed wrong to keep posting on the Leverage post when I talking about the wiki. Actually I only noticed this area of the site this morning. I found the wikia in late June or early July. I had added a bunch of e-books to my tablet and had a hard time figuring out which book to read next. Those novellas really bugger things up lol. The wiki is great but looks a bit like it could use some help. Of course I was too busy reading. Also I had almost no experience with editing wikias. I have an account because I changed a “1” to a “2” on a Hay Day page a couple years ago.
I thought I’d move the the Leverage book from upcoming to released. Sounds simple right? I was so nervous about messing everything up I actually procrastinated and did housework. Then I couldn’t make heads or tails of the table visual editor. I think I deleted a picture link but managed to move the book. I mistook review preview so I got to see a list of all the mistakes I made lol. I hit cancel and cleaned the sink. I’m not one to give up so I tried again. I have a bit of experience with html so I just used the source editor.
Last night it hit me that if you click The Novels you end up on the category page. Because it didn’t make sense to me why the the list was put on the category page I had moved it to its own page effectively cutting off anyone from the list of books. Ooops so I quickly added all the books to the Novel category. As long as no one adds anything else there is a nice alphabetical list of books. This morning I also added a link to the new page. One day I would like to edit those drop down menus.
AJ, I hope you don’t get notifications for each of my edits. If you do I’m sorry. I’ll slow down soon lol. Italics need 2 individual quotes, people, not a single double quote! Why did wikitext do that? (or why does it bother me?)
I actually do get notifications for each edit, but don’t worry about it. I’m just glad to have the help.
I was looking at the drop downs just yesterday. I will have to figure out how to edit those. It might be something only the page owner can do. But, if you have suggestions as to the structure of the drop downs, let me know.
Also, let me know if I can answer any other questions.
I got curious about how many visitors come to the wiki. While looking at that I realized I have been updating or fixing pages that are not very popular. Which is fine. It’s good that the more popular page like Eve is in good shape and probably no one noticed any of my screw ups lol. I was mostly concerned with the reading order. The other thing I noticed was a page with a book list that has not been updated since 2012 in on the top 20 of most popular. There isn’t a link to it that I’ve found (yet). Turns out a google search of “in death series” brings it up. I was toying with the idea of making a list with no covers or plot summaries so maybe I will update that.
I’m almost certain its only page owners that can edit it. I’ll have to rethink my ideas with finding the popular page list. I get frustrated by not having an easy to get to the book list while on the individual book pages. I thought of starting an unrelated wiki so I can practice with drop down menus. I don’t want to suggest something that turns out to be hours of work.

As you would expect, pages for Eve, Peabody and Roarke are most popular. What I found most interesting was that the page for Injuries is up in the top 10. Followed by the pages for individual books.
But anyway, that list is a good place to start if you want to check the info for most popular pages.
yes that is where I ended up the other day. I noticed the injury page was popular too :-). I also found that odd list page there. I updated it.
Fandom says over 50% of users are on a mobile device. I had an idea for making the home page look nicer. I started a test page but it’s awful on my 4.5″ phone. I gave up on it for now. The List of Titles in Order of Release page that I spent the most time on actually looks ok.
Okay, I did figure out how to edit the main navigation. If there are any suggestions as to what should go in the main navigation, please let me know.
The main page doesn’t look too bad on a phone…at least not on mine, but I guess I’ll have to look at other home pages to see if I feel like it could be better. My main goal for it was for people to have easy access to most info from the main page.

The main page looks fine on a phone. I had an idea for making it look nicer on a bigger screen but that idea looks bad on a phone.
I created an unrelated wiki so I can practice on it.
I’ll recheck the most visited page and try to figure out a better use of the menus. I’ll let you know when I do. Thanks.
